Interesting thoughts about the "moderate flank". On the Nick Breeze podcast, he had Rupert Read talking about this and I was initially dubious. Isn't the moderate flank the very thing that hasn't worked for the past 30 years? But Charlie Gardner is correct, the moderate flank already exists and just needs to mobilise. You could hear murmurings (murmurations?) of this from the RSPB the other week, when they accused the government of declaring a war against nature. Similar sentiments were expressed from other seemingly benign organisations, like the National Trust. Chris Packham of Autumn Watch recently spoke at an event which included Just Stop Oil. Surely this must make his comfortable middle class viewership take pause for thought. I think we maybe underestimate what could happen when the members of these groups feel that they need to mobilise. Another potential societal tipping point!
