The older I get, the more my vision of the future changes from Star Trek Luxury Space Communism, to Mad Max Gasoline Apocalypse. People like yourself are the reason that I still have any kind of shred of hope left for humanity. I'm on track to change careers and hopefully make some kind of difference in the blink of an eye that we're here. I'm grateful that I've found communities of people who understand the direness of our situation, as well as people who have dedicated their lives to understanding how there can be an ethical transition away from a deadend consumerist culture. Can't wait to read the book, you have a poetic way with words.
Well said and written Rachel. Please can you add food production to the mix? We could feed ourselves with regenerative agricultural methods and provide meaningful employment in doing so for many many people. But we need land and it’s getting impossible to access it for food growing. I’m thinking that our main hope will be that the land grabbers will start again to think about leasing it to food producers. But it will probably take a crisis to make this happen.
Oo, oo ! (Hand in the air.) With utmost respect. Why haven't fossil fuel companies been gutted ? Emerging from a rabbit hole, third coffee, we find the curious male hubris name of the "Seven Sisters" : BP - David Sime Cargill (Burmah Oil), Gulf Oil - Andrew Mellon. (Merged with Standard Oil CA), Shell - August Kessler/VOC, Sir Marcus Bearstead, Standard Oil of California - Joseph S. Cullinan/Andrew Mellon/John D. Rockefeller, Standard Oil of New Jersey - Walter C. Teagle/John D. Rockefeller, Standard Oil of New York - John D. Rockefeller. The "Seven Sisters". One other of note : Branobel - Robert, Ludvig and Gustaf Nobel (Alfed Nobels brothers)/Rothschilds/ Standard Oil (after 1920). Follow the genealogy and the money. Gutted ? Because they are a royal blue whale and we are a penknife.
Enough , Stop! Has it never occurred to you that almost everywhere on our magnificent planet we may observe the following .
1.Deep and /or shallow Strata of coal deposits that took sometimes 100's of millions of years to develop.
2.Similarly huge, vast limestone deposits consisting of the sediment of ancient marine life, sans oil.
3. We are ever discovering more vast oil deposits, as every year, Saudi Arabia pulls more out the ground than any other of the world's producers, from the seif -same deposits under their feet.
4.A significant amount of the world's oil deposits occur way below the strata that we know first supported life on this planet.
5.Do your research and discover that certain long standing wells that were commercially exhausted have refilled and become viable again.
6.Oil is in FACT the result of the natural dynamics and mechanisms that result in its constant production. It is break down of key elements that are constantly in play.
7.In light of the blindingly obvious truth behind the easy but absurd falsehoods and lies perpetrated about oil consisting of the breakdown of pre- existing life forms, please spread the word we have been, and continue to be fed a pile of horse- shit & nonesense by those who seek comfortable careers and profits.
Interesting comments, but as far as I know (from my own research) the 'vast new discoveries' are not vast at all (relatively speaking) as they are not near previous discoveries, hardly making a dent (for very long) in the ever-increasing demand.
As for the wells that 'refill themselves', they never do so for very long, meaning they don't ever fully recover.
There's been a lot of talk in alternative circles about abundant hidden reserves of abiotic oil and other 'self-producing oil' very deep down somewhere, yet nowhere can credible resources be found for these hidden reserves. I'm still in the process of researching this area further though, so if you could provide any credible sources that would be appreciated.
I can recommend watching the following extract with Art Berman regarding complexities to do with peak-oil and their replacements - conclusion is that that it's very unlikely that they exist anywhere ...

You're so right Rachel. Thank you.
