It’s in the DNA of World Bank to destroy or at least disturb democracy. They’ve been masters at loan sharking for years. Sri Lanka is a case in point.

I think that when it comes to the exploitative relationships between developing countries and multinational corporations (MNCs) and foreign investors, one big factor is that there are leaders/politicians in those countries that truly believe that attracting such foreign investments and corporations to conduct business, is crucial for their countries' growth, development, job creation, etc; essentially, their political ideology is pro-neoliberal capitalism.

Thus, these developing countries are very eager to sign various international free trade agreements, that cause more harm than good to them in terms of granting too much power and favour towards the MNCs over the local companies and industries, restricting the development and growth of local companies and industries, restricting the regulatory powers of the respective governments, etc.

I feel that ultimately, it's the common citizens in these countries that need to become aware of the situation, rise up and put pressure on their governments to change their political mindset towards these particular matters.

Instead of relying solely on foreign, external corporations and industries, developing countries located in various regions around the world, should also prioritize developing their own internal, local industries and corporations. They should also enhance economic cooperation and trade amongst their neighbouring countries within their respective regions. Such actions will definitely help these countries become more self-sufficient, independent, and less beholden to the MNCs, foreign investors, and world institutions that favour these corporations.
